Monkey Island in Homosassa, FL
by Josh on May.10, 2009, under Day Trips, Homosassa Springs, Monkey Island, Nature and Wildlife

One of the neatest oddities in the area. Monkey Island is a small island in the middle of the Homosassa River. Right across from the Riverside Crabhouse Restaurant and the Homosassa River Resort – the owner of the resort put the monkeys on the island in the 1960’s to try and boost business. There are now 5 monkeys living and playing happily on the island and you can see them in person or on the monkey cam!

by Josh on May.07, 2009, under Day Trips, Homosassa Springs, Nature and Wildlife

Another speedy getaway brings us 1 hour North to Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. Here you can check out the manatee in an underwater observation room, do some bird-watching (you will often see many high-powered cameras here), and they will also take you out on a boat ride to see more alligators in close proximity than might make you comfortable! Check it out by clicking here!
